Cruisin Electric Vehicle Brain

Cruisin Electric Vehicle Brain

The photo above is of Nathan's son using the first version of Cruisin Brain in 2017.

Cruisin Brain started life as the electronic drive by wire brain for Nathan's son's custom electric car. Built to be exceptionally safe, reliable and robust back then, Cruisin Brain and it's components have only built on that foundation since then.

The Cruisin Electric Vehicle Brain was developed from its roots in response to the electrification of the transport sector globally. The hardware and software were designed, built and coded in Australia and it has been in operation and development since June 2017 till today.

As we electrify more of our transport fleet, each vehicle, whether it is a bicycle, golf buggy, scooter, car, tank, 4x4,, 4x6, military vehicle, amphibious vehicle or motorbike, all of them will require a brain. A brain to control each and every part of the vehicle, from the throttle to the dashboard, to the motors and indicators, each and every part of the vehicle needs to be monitored and controlled. This is not currently how electric vehicles operate. Sometimes they are controlled by several different components, sometimes they are controlled by their electronic speed controllers, other times, we not quite sure which part is in ultimate control of the car. This creates problems that only become apparent when we are further down the electrification path. Maybe the vehicle needs a software update but the company that built it went broke. Maybe you want to customise features for a military vehicle and cannot because the software and hardware were created by an adversary. Maybe you want to standardise your fleet and cannot because each vehicle type is built by a different company.

Electric vehicles pose an incredible opportunity to create a brain that offers standardisation and exceptional features while allowing all of the modern features that consumers want in their cars and the military to have incredibly basic but reliable features.

Electric vehicles are significantly simpler than a standard combustion engine vehicle. At their simplest they have an electric motor, motor controller, batteries, throttle, brake and steering wheel. Sure there are other important components like lights and indicators and electric seats and radio buttons but these components are not required to make an electric vehicle run.

One of the issues with electric cars, including combustion engine cars and vehicles in general is they have become much more complicated than they need to. Having worked in the innovation industry for so long, it has become obvious the industry has decided to innovate for innovations sakes. Once this starts happening is you get increasingly bazar features that no longer help but hinder, they create complexity to standardisation.

Electric cars provide the opportunity to standardise the main components and Cruisin Brain was created to make that possible.

Cruisin Brain is not ready to be installed in electric vehicles that are driven on the road. We have purposely not attempted this because we are not car manufacturers, we would prefer to partner with car manufacturers. We are not out to compete with the large car manufacturers just yet. Though we are out to provide our products to existing electric vehicle market and the future electric vehicle market.

The opportunity of the electric vehicle market is incredible. Over time, electric vehicles will get smaller and smaller. You can see that many people have downsized to electric scooters and electric bikes. If you look at the electric motor cross bike they are significantly smaller and lighter than current combustion dirt bikes. The military market is another market that is changing fast. They are not able to use systems built by potential adversaries. It is these changing markets that Cruisin Brain is out to capture and enable.

The Cruisin Electric Vehicle Software and Hardware has the following components:

  1. The Cruisin Brain
  2. Battery Monitoring and power consumption
  3. Cruise Control with complex switching
  4. Power Steering with onboard power converter
  5. Lights & Blinkers with onboard power converter
  6. Dashboard
  7. Wireless Remote Control
  8. Tracking
  9. Tire Pressure
  10. Anti tip and roll
  11. Wireless lock
  12. Phone configuration
  13. Gear Change (synthetic or actual)
  14. Data storage
  15. 2x4, 4x4, skid steer selection.

The main component is the Cruisin Brain with all other components being accessories to the Cruisin Brain. The Crusiin Brain is designed such that all critical systems are controlled onboard with accessory boards added to provide more complex system configurations.

Cruisin Brains and its supporting components are currently sold by request only. If you would like to discuss the Cruisin Brain or buy it or its supporting components, please Contact Us

Some more background

Once the first Cruisin Brain was created for Nathan's son, his daughter wanted her own electric car and then several of the neighbours children wanted their own car. Nathan built the cars and the Cruisin Brain, further developing the software and hardware.
